Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan Overview

This fan is a product of Honeywell’s legendary innovative, high quality engineering. Making everything from rockets to solar panels, and operating all over the globe, Honeywell consistently leads in everything it does.  This fan offered innovation and state-of-the-art small appliance efficiency.

This fan has been around for 10 years now.  Manufactured by a licensee (Kaz) with equivalent world-wide recognition, it offers a 5-year warranty.  It is still exceptional in its niche and outperforms other similar fans consistently.  Thumbs up for that!

What’s Different About the Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan?

Well, quite a bit!  There is no other fan that I know of that has a breeze-speed-fluctuation built in.  And the shape makes it very unobtrusive in the room.  It stands there in the corner, like a plant. Or a robot.  More like a robot, though!

Note: The Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan does not “Cool” the air

Some consumers expect it to operate like a portable ‘air conditioning’ unit, but it is not. It won’t actually ‘cool’ the air, but as with all fans and their purpose, the breeze will make it feel cooler.  It, like every other fan, just blows air around.  But this one cleans the air as well!  Not at the same level as a dedicated air purifier, but still, it’s keen.

Invisible Airborne culprits are sucked through a filter

The Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan has a removable, washable filter, so you don’t have to replace it ever – but do remember to clean it regularly.

The filter is removed for cleaning by simply snapping the back grill off (no screws or tools needed), and is a half-tube shape that is nearly as tall as the fan.

To clean the filter, run it under water and gently rub at the mesh to get everything off.  Allow it to dry completely before reinserting it into and operating the fan.

Let’s get to why it’s named Fresh Breeze:

The “Breeze” part

You know how sometimes when you’re outside on a ‘breezy’ day, the breeze doesn’t necessarily stay the same velocity all the time: it comes in little gusts and ebbs and flows (as opposed to “nice, steady breezes”). Turning on the “breeze” mode simulates just that (outdoorsy) – when ‘breeze’ mode is selected at the ‘high’ speed setting, the ‘breeze’ will vary between high and medium speeds intermittently.  On ‘medium’, you’ll get low t0 medium variability, and on ‘low’, it just turns off and back on again.

The “Fresh” part

Right, they also used “Fresh” in their name.  This refers to the ionizer function; an electrical process that releases negative ions into the air. These particles then attach to positive ions on allergens such as pollen, dust, dander, etc.  The fan can be set to use the ionizer, or not. Same with the oscillation. There is a control button that works both.

Ionization was really big back in 2005, but since then it has been discovered that it has some negative side-effects as well as positive ones.  Ionization can cause “black wall” syndrome in your home (after time, the walls an furnishings actually become “blackened” by whatever it is those invisible particles are doing.  Also, the allergens don’t disappear, they just become neutralized by the negative ions, which stick to them.)  Science.  I tell ya….amazing stuff.

Other Unique Traits

The remote can adjust the temp and timer, but has no readout (one must physically go look at the unit for precision temperature reading and to make adjustments).  It can be set at 2-degree intervals between 60 and 90 (Fahrenheit). If the temperature gets above where you set it, the fan will come on.  It has a ‘memory’ also, and will stay set where you leave off rather than starting over every time.

Only the grill part moves for oscillation, not the entire head.

No tuning up (routine maintenance) is expected aside from washing the filter, and wiping off the exterior.

Who is the Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower For?

Homeowners or people who spend a lot of time in any built environment that needs additional air-quality control (offices, conference rooms, lobbies, etc.).  Because it has a timer (1-12 hour automatic shut-off and turn-on), it can be programmed for daytime only or night-time only use (you can leave it home by itself).

By invisible, silent ionization (negative particles attaching to and neutralizing positive particles, people with allergen or pollutant concerns now have a way to filter the air that makes it healthier instead of just filtering out dust and hair.

It is most suitable for adults-only environments, as children and pets might knock it over, which it will not accept gracefully.  Also, careful of the air intake – long hair can get grabbed and pulled.

The Honeywell Fresh Breeze is the second best-seller in Home and Kitchen air comfort devices.

Are there any Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Customer Complaints or Negative Feedback?

Yes, but relatively few. (Aren’t there always?)

  • The most common complaint is that the Honeywell Fresh-Breeze is top-heavy, especially when in the taller mode (using the pedestal stand).
  • The pedestal can create portability issues as it sometimes comes apart during transport.
  • The fan attracts lint and dust and pet hair like a magnet (ions, anyone?), so some say “it always looks dirty.”

My Own Thoughts on the Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan

This fan is innovative and a fabulous concept.  I expect in the future for our home-air-quality robots to be even more sophisticated, and this one is a great precursor!  For the price, it offers a lot!

I know enough about ions and how they affect our health to say that this sounds like an awesome idea.  It’s been on the market long enough to prove itself, as it retains place number two at Amazon.  Worth the money if one has a suitable/compatible environment.

Also, because of the ‘black wall effect’, I think I wouldn’t want to use the ionization function in a recently freshened up, repainted room.

And finally, I would expect it to constantly be covered in dust, lint, pet-hair etc – the outdoors comes inside regularly around here.

Summary and score:

A worthwhile, and affordable investment for the right consumer! Great for allergy-sufferers, attractive modern design, but not a rough-and-tumble industrial-strength unit.  Also – if cleanliness is crucial, the ionization function may cause the above-mentioned “black wall effect.”  Not pet- or child-friendly, and portability/construction is a little sketchy.  Top-heaviness adds to its fragility, but no filter replacement is necessary.  The consumer must remember to clean it, though, like any air filter in your building.

  • Portable
  • Affordable
  • Quality Engineering
  • Innovative Concept (cleans and freshens)
  • Unique “breeze” effect (air velocity fluctuation)
  • Washable filter

  • Top-heavy
  • Poor quality plastic
  • Might cause soot buildup on walls and furniture

For my part, every time I type the name “Fresh Breeze” or say it or think it, I picture Will Smith (??).  So, there’s that.
